About Ecosan Services Foundation (ESF)

Ecosan Services Foundation (ESF) is a section 8 non-profit company established in 2006 with the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and in association with the Innovative Ecological Sanitation Network of India (IESNI).

Our objective & vision is to promote ecological sanitation and sustainable sanitation practices along with efficient water & waste water management practices in India. With a unique mix of knowledge and experience; we work closely with the public and private sectors. Since the conception of this company, we have gained extensive experience in capacity development, policy building, awareness raising, project implementation and consulting in the sustainable sanitation field in South Asia. Innovative courses on sustainable sanitation followed by a participatory, cross-institutional and inter-disciplinary approach enabled us to win the prestigious “Best NGO in water education 2007-2008” award by Water Digest in association with UNESCO – IHE and many other accolades.

Apart from being a forerunner in water-wastewater technology consultancy, ESF has designed and implemented varied and innovative training courses within the spectrum of the sustainable sanitation and water management (SSWM) approach. During its decade-plus track record, ESF has emerged as leading institution with over 30 successful training courses and participatory workshops with themes like Ecological Sanitation, Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management, Entrepreneurship Opportunities in the water sector etc. for a range of stakeholders including government officials, local village panchayat heads, independent entrepreneurs as well as small and medium enterprises, members of NGO’s, CBO’s etc. The innovative training courses follow a participatory, cross-institutional and inter-disciplinary approach with an aim to look at the entire water and nutrient cycle in an integrated, holistic manner providing solutions that can be adapted to both urban and rural Indian settings.

Over the years, we have also reached out to 1 lakh+ school children under our flagship service “School Sanitation”, to create awareness about safe WASH practices in schools and to develop tailor-made sustainable sanitation models for needy schools across the country.
